Some might think we are a little ambitious going on a last minute mini holiday with a 3-month-old and a toddler but we had heard great reviews about Druids Glen being family friendly so we thought we should give it a go.

Our room was spacious and had a beautiful view over the golf course and surrounding hills. With two king size beds Bertie was delighted to have a ‘Big Bed’ to himself and George got a travel cot.

Our room was situated in close proximity to the ‘Baby Pantry’ Which supplied bottle sterilisers, Baby food, spare nappies, milk.. Practically everthing you could need. It was almost like a home from home.

Continuing with the child friendly theme there was ‘Druids Den’ situated in the hotel which was Bertie’s favourite place to go (Aside from the swimming pool). The Den was a huge room filled with toys, games, cinema screen and computer games and a great meeting point for Children to make friends in the hotel.

We spent our first day solely at the hotel and went for a walk around the tranquil grounds. There is a designated walk which takes you through the forest trees and alongside the river. It was so peaceful and George just loved watching the leaves of the towering trees. Further along we came across a fairy garden to Bertie’s delight… and we left a few coins to make a wish.

Back at the hotel (via the playground of course) a little vintage icecream cart had parked in reception so we enjoyed an afternoon icecream before heading for a swim in the pool.

That evening we dined in the hotel and went to the BBQ which was on the terrace. The food was amazing and live music played while we enjoyed our meal.

Breakfast was simply amazing with EVERYTHING on offer.. the pancakes with chocolate sauce were a family favourite.

We decided to go for a drive on day two and came across Wexford Lavender Farm which was both beautiful and a fun day out for the boys (despite the weather). There were farm animals, barrel rides for Bertie and lavender picking for me.

There was also a beautiful café with home baked cakes and buns and a craft market upstairs.. With a few rain showers it was nice to sit down somewhere dry and homely and enjoy a cuppa and some chocolate cake .

Back at the hotel we went swimming once again and enjoyed an early meal in the bar before picking a DVD from the DVD library (Fireman Sam of course) and heading to bed.

On our final day we travelled down to Avoca village. As a massive fan of the shops I didn’t know it was an actual place so when I spotted the sign on the way to the Lavender farm I knew we had to fit it in before heading home.

The town itself is where Ballykissangel was filmed and I recognised a few venues from the series. The Avoca Mill provides tours of the working mill where they make their beautiful rugs, blankets and woollen socks. It was such a beautiful day that after the tour we had lunch outside and a dander around the village before we finally ( and reluctantly ) headed home to Belfast.

We had the most amazing few days , so much to do and so little time. There are so many other places we want to visit in the area and hopefully at our next stay at Druids Glen we will tick a few more off our bucket list.
